PCAP is particularly interested in the specific challenge of the developing policies to deal with increasing longevity, particularly at a time of rapidly falling fertility. The policy group at the OIA takes a strong multi-disciplinary approach combining expertise from philosophy, demography, sociology and economics.
The Centre oversees the IARU Comparative Analysis of Health Policies and Strategies collaboration which has been developed under the International Association of Research Universities Collaborative Programme on Ageing (IARU).
is responsible for overseeing the demography programme under the direction of the Centre Director, Dr. George Leeson. The MAP Centre addresses the main demographic drivers - fertility, mortality and migration. The demography research group at the Institute is comprised of a number of experts from a wide range of academic disciplines interested in social statistics, gerontology, historical demography, medical demography and economic demography. OIA researchers have a particular research interest in population and development.
The Global Ageing Survey is funded by HSBC and covers 44,000 people aged 40 to 80 in 25 countries across all regions of the world. Started in 2005, the OIA has worked on three waves of data 2006, 2007, 2008 and holds one of the largest data bases on the attitudes, expectations and behaviours of later life. It also holds data on some 5000 employees. The study is also published in association with HSBC as Future of Retirement FOR 2, 3 and 4.
