
AFRAN is the African Research Network of the Oxford Institute of Ageing.
• The African Research on Ageing Network (AFRAN) is a collaborative network that brings together African and international institutions and individuals from academia, policy and practice.
• AFRAN was established as a direct outcome of the Oxford Conference on Research on Ageing in Africa, in April 2005.
• AFRAN is a standing committee of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics (IAGG) and is endorsed by the United Nations Programme on Ageing as an essential partner in furthering the UN’s Research Agenda on Ageing in the Africa region.
Mission
• AFRAN’s mission is to promote the conduct of high-quality, policy-relevant research and training on ageing in Africa in order to foster:
a) The establishment of an evidence and skills base for the development of apposite policy and practice on ageing in Africa, and
b) A vibrant, globally engaged African scientific discourse and community on ageing.
