The LARNA network is a capacity building network to build bridges between Latin American scholars, policy-makers and practitioners to provide an opportunity to develop collaboration, and the pooling of ideas as well as sharing experiences on ageing issues from countries across Latin America. The aim is to develop joint courses and training possibilities to encourage and support capacity building in Latin America.

As part of the process of development the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, with funding from the British Academy, held its' first conference ‘Ageing in Latin America: Developing the Research Agenda' from 2nd to 3rd July 2009. The conference brought together scholars, policy makers and researchers with an interest in all aspects of ageing in Latin America, and provided opportunities to develop cross national collaborations.

The 3rd LARNA Conference 'Ageing in Latin America: Advancing the Research Agenda', hosted by the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and UNEX Pontificia Universidade Catolica del Peru, is scheduled to take place in Lima Peru on the 10th and 11th of November 2011. Thanks to the Co-ordinators Mg. Blanca Lopez and Dr Alejandro Klein this conference promises to be another stimulating session to progress the research agenda of the LARNA network.
