Our communities, housing, transport and retail structures will need to adjust:
- The increase in the percentage of mature and elderly travellers will raise issues of health and safety, design and access for our transport systems.
- The decrease in large numbers of young will reduce certain types of crime and vandalism.
- Communities will need to build “life-time” homes, housing that is able to adjust as the population ages,
- Our buildings will require level thresholds and wide doors for wheelchair access, structures that can accommodate hoists, and facilities and services that can be used by an older population with limited mobility.
- The increasing dominance of the UK High Street byretailers targeting the young, will be replaced by more age-segregated shopping areas creating meccas for fashion and entertainment trends for the over-60’s.
