Will Digital Technologies, including AI, Help or Hinder Healthy Ageing? A Geriatrician's Perspective

While advances in digital technologies, including AI, hold great promise for their potential applications in supporting health, health care and ageing well, there is a real risk that they can ultimately cause greater harm than good.  Digital technologies are not infallible, and their outputs depend on how they are designed. the quality of their inputs and how we regulate them.  This seminar will help to explain the potential benefits, but also the real risks that currently exist in using digital technologies in the support and care of older persons who have very unique needs that are often not appreciated or well considered.  We will also explore what safeguards need to be considered to ensure they can ultimately promote healthy ageing and ageing in the 'right' place for our 'super-aged' societies.
