Nicky McDonald awarded the Winston Churchill Fellowship for her visit to the Institute in June

A New Zealander who will visit the Institute next June has just been awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship to help fund her visit. Nicky McDonald is Senior Strategic Adviser at Nelson City Council, a local authority in the South Island of New Zealand. Nicky is visiting the Institute of Population Ageing to research innovative policy responses to the ageing demographic. The New Zealand Winston Churchill Memorial Trust recognised the impact population ageing is having, particularly on South Island and rural New Zealand towns, and the need for experienced people to translate the growing body of research into practical responses for local authorities. The Trust’s funding support for Nicky will give her an opportunity to spend some weeks at the Institute gaining a better understanding of how other countries are meeting the challenges of the ageing demographic.
