The 2nd Africa Region Conference of Gerontology and Geriatrics, Long-Term Care Systems for Africa: Setting Agendas, will be hosted 6-8 December in Nairobi, Kenya.
The conference, convened in cooperation with the World Health Organization and African Union Commission, will provide a platform for dialogue among policy, research and practice stakeholders to jointly forge an agenda on the provision of long-term care for Africans in the coming decades.
The theme of the conference centers on the major deficiencies in current long-term care arrangements for older adults in sub-Saharan Africa – and the urgent need for more effective and appropriate systems to address the care needs of a rapidly expanding older population.
In addition, two unique pre-conference events are offered in conjunction with the conference: an Introductory Course in Geriatric Medicine and a Master Class on Families, Aging and Care.
Dr Jaco Hoffman will deliver a Master Class in Families, Aging and Care. The master class, convened by the IAGG Global Social Initiative on Ageing (GSIA), provides an opportunity for in-depth examination and the development of research ideas on, the place of- and support to families in the provision of long-term care for older persons in Africa.
