Professor Sarah Harper comments in MailOnline on the research findings of a new study looking at the idea of minimising the death rate from coronavirus by restricting people from meeting outside their own age group.
"Populations are not as age-segregated as the paper seems to suggest, either in households or within the wider society. It seems to be those aged under 35 are more likely to be asymptomatic and unknowingly spread the virus", she said.
"A more effective measure for those who continue to suggest segregating along age lines, would be to separate those aged 15-35 from society temporarily and allow everyone over 35 to continue with socially distanced interaction", Harper said.
