Gendered Ageism: Older Women in Employment


The OIA Trinity Term Seminar Series are hosting on Thursday 9th June Professor Wendy Loretto from the University of Edinburgh, who will present a lecture on ‘Gendered Ageism - Older Women in Employment’

The seminar will take place at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, 66 Banbury Road (Wolesey Hall – corner Banbury Road right across from North Parade) between 12:30 – 2:00 pm.
 

:: Professor Wendy Loretto’s Background

Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Director of Undergraduate Programmes in Business and Accounting
BCom (Edinburgh); PhD (Edinburgh).

After graduating employed as a commercial manager with Marks and Spencer plc. Worked for three years in University of Edinburgh Alcohol Research Group, prepared PhD which investigated social and cultural aspects of illicit and licit drug use amongst young people.

:: Research Interests

Recent and on-going research work includes: (i) the effects of organisational change on employee health and wellbeing; and (ii) investigation of age-based discrimination in employment, and changing approaches to managing diversity and equal opportunities. In relation to (i), is writing up findings from a 3-year multi-disciplinary study into organisational change within the NHS (funded by Medical Research Council). In relation to (ii), is involved in several projects: employability of older workers; investigation of age and retirement within the telecoms industry; and options for extending/sustaining working lives.
