How Britain’s falling birthrate is creating alarm in the economy | Sarah Harper


The total fertility rate across England and Wales fell to 1.49 children per woman in 2022, from 1.55 in 2021, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

"One of the main issues is equality, meaning equal treatment by the state and within a relationship. It is only when women believe they can continue working and have spare time that they will take the plunge into motherhood", said Harper.
