Biosketch
Dr. Apt (MSW, PhD) is a professor of Sociology and presently, the Dean of Academic Affairs at Ashesi University, Accra, Ghana. She previously chaired the Departments of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Ghana, Legon and was the Director of the Centre for Social policy Studies at the same university. A founding member and past president of the African Gerontological Society and Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of HelpAge International, Prof Apt was a member of the United Nations technical team for the 2002 Second World Assembly on Ageing. Author of five books including Coping with old age in a changing Africa and over 70 articles and book chapters on ageing in Africa, Prof. Apt has received awards for her work from the UN Secretary General, the British Geriatrics Society and the International Federation on Ageing
