Biosketch

Schola Matovu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the San Francisco State University, San Francisco and AS qualification in nursing from the Merritt College, Oakland.Scholais currently pursuing A PhD degree in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco.

Scholais a staff nurse on a medical/surgical/oncology unit.  In the past 12 years,Scholahave derived great professional satisfaction in caring for older adults in nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and in-home settings. In addition, Schola have worked at length as a research assistant on a qualitative study involving older African Americans and illicit drug abuse.

Currently, Schola’s research interest is focused on mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of older caregivers to chronically ill children. Specifically, investigating mental health symptoms in older grandparent caregivers to children infected with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Scholais an active member of several campus committees and other professional organizations such as the Sigma Theta Tau International Society, California Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.
