Katia’s research interests revolve around changes to the social institute of retirement and issues related to work and wellbeing in later life. Her doctoral thesis explored retirement expectations of older Belarusians and evolution of social meaning of retirement in Post-Soviet time. Subsequently, Katia was involved in the project researching causes and consequences of Shrinking Cities in Europe (FP7 Framework) with the focus on Ukraine. Recently, she conducted evaluation of the Programme on Tackling Social Isolation and Loneliness among older people in Ukraine for World Jewish Relief.

Katia is assisting Dr George Leeson with management of EAST (Eastern European Societies in Transition) research Network and related activities. She helped organise EAST Network 2017 workshop (Cluj, Romania) on "Growing Old in Central and Eastern Europe - the Challenges and the Opportunities" and 2016 workshop (Budapest, Hungary) on “Long Term Care, Spatial Planning and Public Policy in Central and Eastern Europe”. In 2015 Katia convened a seminar series on ‘Causes and Consequences of Population Ageing in Central and Eastern Europe’.
