Mr. João Paulo Ferreira da Silva was a Visiting Junior Academic under the Lesley Kirkley Fellowship Programme at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing (4th - 8th July 2016).

Bachelor's degree in gerontology and Master's degree in sociology - Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). His themes of research are sexuality, masculinities, digital media, HIV-AIDS, desire and corporality under the coordenation of sociologist Dr. Richard Miskolci and with funding from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP, 2015/2016).  He is vice-coordinator of the Applied Research Center for Gerontology and Aging (NuPAGE) and member of Quereres - Research Center on Differences, Gender and Sexuality (http://www.ufscar.br/quereres). In the past years he worked with correlational statistics, descriptive and documentary research; these studies were condensed in a research project entitled "Perceptions of hope, quality of life and social support in elderly that relate with same sex people", which received financial support from FAPESP (2014). Acts as advisor of journals (print/online) Interface (UNESP), the journal of Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing (UFRGS) and the Sexuality, Salud y Sociedad (UERJ). He was a fellow of the Pró-Reitoria de Extensão (PROEX, 2013) for the project “Acolhimento Continuado" coordinated by Professor Dr. Vivian Ramos Melhado and monitor of Culture and University Extension Committee (CCEx) of the University of São Paulo (USP, 2013). He is vice-coordinator of the project "Atendimento em Gerontologia", which is funded by the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
