Andrew Hockman was an IARU intern at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing from May to June 2019.
Andrew Hockman is a dual master student in social welfare and public health at the University of California, Berkeley. Andrew’s undergraduate background is in anthropology and art, and he has extensive experience in applied social work practice with LGBTQ+ and aging populations, working as direct service staff for the Minnesota AIDS Project and San Francisco’s Department of Aging and Adult Services. His research interests surround LGBTQ+ issues, specifically the structural forces that perpetuate HIV/AIDS among sexual and gender minorities. With HIV-affected individuals ageing for the first time since the onset of the epidemic, Andrew is using his time at the Institute to investigate ecological supports necessary for this population to age in place with their peers.
