Dr. Kaihao Liu was a Visiting Academic at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing in April 2024- April 2025.
He is an Associate Professor at School of Economics, Shandong University. He has long been dedicated to empirical studies on China’s economy (Applied Microeconomics), including international trade, population economics, health economics, development economics, public economics, as well as interdisciplinary studies.
Dr. Liu has published more than 30 academic papers as an independent or first author in Chinese journals and a first author or corresponding author in English journals, including Economic Development and Cultural Change, The Journal of International Trade & Economic Development, China Industrial Economics (2 papers), Systems Engineering-Theory & Practice, Journal of Finance and Economics, Studies of International Finance, Journal of International Trade, and Nankai Economic Studies, etc. He has successfully presided seven national and provincial research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation Project, Major Project and Key Project of Shandong Province Key Research and Development Program (Soft Science Project), Shandong Province Social Science Planning Research Project, etc. He has also received many honors and prizes, including two second prizes and one third prize of the Shandong Province Social Science Outstanding Achievement Award, a second prize of the 9th Shandong Province Human Resources and Social Security Outstanding Research Achievement Award, etc.
During his stay at the Institute he plans to explore the impacts of population ageing on China’s economy from various angles based on detailed microeconomic data at the household (or individual) and firm level, and give the corresponding policy recommendations by identifying causal connections.
