Shirui Xue is a Visiting Academic at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing from September 2026 to February 2027. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Northwest University and a Master’s degree in Law from Renmin University of China, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in Gerontology.

Her research focuses on older adults’ health, long-term care, and ageing policy, with particular interests in changes in health and disability, care needs, and long-term care policy. To date, she has been involved in three national-level research projects, including a Major Project of the National Social Science Fund of China, a project funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and a Major Project of the Key Research Base for Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, as well as four research projects at the provincial and ministerial levels. She has published three articles in journals indexed in the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI).

During her visit to the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, she will continue her research on projecting future long-term care needs, with a particular focus on trends in disability and care needs among older adults and their implications for long-term care service provision and workforce planning. Through her visit, she aims to broaden the international scope of her research and strengthen academic exchange and collaboration with scholars working in the fields of population ageing and long-term care.
