Zhong Yu is a visiting student at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing from October 2026 to March 2027. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at the Department of Sociology, Tsinghua University, China.

His research focuses on the transformation of healthcare in rural China against the backdrop of population ageing, examining how social structural change, rural revitalization, and grassroots governance reshape health service delivery and older adults' wellbeing in rural communities. Alongside this substantive interest, he maintains a strong commitment to the history of Chinese sociology. He is also interested in broader questions concerning rural society, collective economy, and urban-rural integration.

During his visit to the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, he will concentrate on rural healthcare and ageing in the Chinese context, employing sociological approaches to explore how social change shapes health service delivery and older adults' wellbeing in rural communities. He is particularly interested in comparative perspectives on ageing and rural health, and through his visit he aims to strengthen academic exchange with scholars working on population ageing, and to bring insights from the Chinese experience into broader international conversations on rural ageing and health policy.
