Caiyi Wang is a visiting student at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing from September 2026 to September 2027. She is currently a PhD student at the Jinhe Center for Economic Research, Xi'an Jiaotong University, China.
Her research focuses on how caring for older parents affects retirement savings among middle-aged adults in China. She is particularly interested in two potential mechanisms: how caregiving responsibilities may reduce working hours and income, thereby limiting savings, and how caregiving experiences may increase awareness of future care needs, potentially encouraging individuals to save more for retirement.
During her visit to the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, she will continue her research on the relationship between parental caregiving and retirement savings. She also aims to explore cross-country differences in how caregiving affects individuals' financial preparedness for retirement.
