Rui Kang is an academic visitor at the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing from October 2026 to September 2027. She is currently an Assistant Research Fellow at the National Academy of Chinese Modernization, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), China.
Her research focuses on population ageing, social security, pension systems, and the silver economy, with particular attention to the social and economic implications of demographic change in China. Her broader research interests include income distribution, social policy, elderly care services, and the relationship between population ageing and Chinese modernisation. She is particularly interested in how social security systems and public policies can respond to the challenges and opportunities arising from population ageing, while promoting social wellbeing and sustainable development.
During her visit to the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, she will focus on comparative research on population ageing and social policy, with particular emphasis on the experiences of China and the United Kingdom. Her research will explore ageing-related policies, pension and elderly care systems, and the development of the silver economy in different institutional and social contexts. Through academic exchanges and comparative perspectives, she aims to deepen her understanding of international approaches to population ageing, strengthen research collaboration, and contribute insights from China's experience to broader discussions on ageing, social protection, and public policy.
