Instituto do Envelhecimento and the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing
The Oxford Institute of Population Ageing is pleased to announce an exciting collaborative agreement with Instituto do Envelhecimento, University of Lisbon.
The Instituto do Envelhecimento (Institute of Aging) at the University of Lisbon is an autonomous research unit whose primary objective is to undertake research in the interdisciplinary studies of ageing, including demography and social sciences (sociology, psychology, anthropology, economics, law, geography, etc.) with links to Bio-Medicine and Epidemiology.
It is also dedicated to the promotion of scientific education in studies of ageing, including postgraduate studies, as well as the organization of activities of scientific communication and openness to society. It also participates in studies and evaluation of public policies related to the ageing population.
It is therefore, a partnership which will build on these existing strengths and together create opportunities for even greater success for both institutions.
Background
As part of the ongoing successful relationship with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, it was agreed in 2010 that the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing, share its experience and guide the development of a similiar institute at the University of Lisbon. It was agreed that Professor Sarah Harper, Director would liaise with the Institute’s first Director - Professor Manuel Villaverde Cabral to establish this model based on the successful Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.
Agreement
This three year understanding, financially supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, will develop activities in academic areas of mutual interest such as:
- Academic exchange
- Collaborative research projects
- Joint research activities, such as seminars, conferences and public lectures
- Exchange of publications, academic materials and other information
- Promotion of collaboration in fields of mutual interest
- Such other projects for mutual benefit that are agreed upon by both parties
We look forward to a continuation of this fruitful relationship and an even greater expansion of activities which will mutually benefit both institutions.
