Young and older people in the COVID-19 pandemic

Addressing participation from the family to the global level

Taking the example of the COVID-19 pandemic, this panel discussion series raises the question whether young and older people can strengthen their participation and inclusion in global health governance. This question shall be addressed in a multi- and interdisciplinary dimension, encompassing International Law and Politics, and Gerontology, and in an intergenerational dimension, comprising young and older people.

Research shows increasingly that young and older people are experiencing distinct grievances in the COVID-19 pandemic. Their affectedness must be however viewed in a broader context. An important and central question in this regard is whether stereotypes, prejudices and forms of discrimination hindering inclusion of young and older people on the global level are in a certain manner linked to relationships on the family and communal level. This panel aims to canvass different understandings of participation and connect them to Global Health Governance.
