About the Speaker 

Professor Kiran Rabheru — University of Ottawa, Canada

Kiran Rabheru is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Ottawa and Consultant Geriatric Psychiatrist at The Ottawa Hospital. A physicianscholar with more than three decades of clinical, academic and policy experience, his work spans
mental and brain health in later life, healthy ageing, dignity and agency, human rights, ageism and intersecting forms of discrimination, with a particular interest in how science and medical classification shape care, policy and the lives of older people.
He is Co-Chair of the Lancet Commission on Person-Centred Long-Term Care for Older Persons, Joint Secretary of the World Psychiatric Association Section of Old Age Psychiatry, and immediate past Chair of the International Psychogeriatric Association's Advocacy and Public Awareness Committee.
Dr Rabheru has contributed internationally to debate and advocacy concerning the classification of ageing and 'old age' in ICD-11, and has developed the 'Catch It. Check It. Change It.' micro-practice to help challenge ageism and other forms of discrimination in clinical, scientific and wider societal settings.
