Building the Research Agenda in Mexico


In April 2011, Dr George W Leeson, Co-Director, Oxford Institute of Population Ageing and Dr Alejandro Klein, Univ of Guanajuato-Leon (Mexico) continued to develop the research activities of the OIA’s Latin American Research Network on Ageing (LARNA) Agenda.

Key to the goals of the LARNA network is building bridges and capacity building across Latin America which includes the development of training programmes and sharing of expertise and experiences. For that purpose, Dr. Leeson and Dr. Klein intensively engaged with students and faculty for two weeks at Mexico’s University of Guanajuato-Leon and at the Institute of Geriatrics in Mexico City.

Dr Leeson presented a series of academic seminars on demographic development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, Dr Leeson and Dr Klein liaised with key members of the OIA's Latin American Research Network (LARNA) in preparation for the 3rd LARNA conference to be held in Peru in November 2011.
