Professor Sarah Harper discussed concerns over an ageing population in an article published by The Guardian on 25 December 2025.
She argued that worries about an ageing population are exaggerated, and that society should instead celebrate and make the most of its large generation of healthy, active, older, and creative adults.
“There are some challenges [to an ageing population], but there are also huge opportunities and rather than try and resist it, or stop it, or divert it we should be looking for those opportunities, because we have this massive cohort of healthy, active, older, creative adults", said Harper.
