EAST Research Network Joint Workshop - ‘Silver Economy in Central and Eastern Europe’

Silver Economy in Central and Eastern Europe -  Eastern-European Ageing Societies in Transition (EAST) Workshop in in Łódź, Poland, 22-23 June 2018.

    

The term silver economy was coined in the 1970s to refer to the new market segment, which focuses on addressing the consumption needs of older people. Today the silver economy is firmly embedded in the process of understanding and addressing the ageing of our populations. The needs that emerge as we age may well demand specific solutions which the silver economy strives to provide. As we move deeper into the 21st century – in an age of increasing presence of technologies – the needs and solutions of the ageing population will be very different from the needs and solutions experienced by previous generations.

Central and Eastern European countries are experiencing profound age structural change in their populations and face therefore both the challenges and the opportunities such change presents.

The aim of the 2018 EAST Workshop is to bring together researchers-specialists in population ageing, public policies, economics, and future studies to discuss the development of the silver economy in the CEE countries. We welcome contributions with a multidisciplinary approach to the issues. The two day Workshop will provide an opportunity to present and discuss emerging issues with colleagues and it will be an ideal platform for developing future research collaboration in this important field.

  •          paying for the future;
  •          the public – private partnership in the silver economy;
  •          the lifelong workplace;
  •          the older traveller;
  •          active ageing.

Registration for the EAST workshop in Lodz is now closed

We are interested to hear from researchers and scholars with original empirical or theoretical material on the question of ageing populations in the region. We would encourage an engagement with a range of disciplines. 

We invite you to either submit an abstract for a paper presentation or simply participate in the workshop. All participants must register. Registration fee will be a contribution towards the conference expenses and will cover 2 nights of accommodation (on the 21st and 22nd of June) and lunches and refreshments during the workshop. 

If you wish to present a paper at the Workshop, please send an abstract to katia.padvalkava@ageing.ox.ac.uk no later than 30th April 2018. Places are limited.

*Bursaries will be available to cover registration costs (i.e. accommodation for the two nights and refreshments during the workshop) to those who are planning to present a paper at the workshop.
