The Ageing of Myanmar’s Farmer Population
Category: Research Reports
People:
Farming, especially paddy production, dominates the agriculture sector of Myanmar and much of this activity is undertaken by smallholder farmers who are growing old.
The report “The Ageing of Myanmar’s Farmer Population: Implications for Agriculture and Food Security” explores how the ageing of Myanmar’s farming population will affect agricultural livelihood patterns and agricultural productivity. It considers three main questions concerning the future age profile of Myanmar’s smallholder agriculture population, the implications of an older farming population for Myanmar’s agricultural future and the broad policy and practice steps which would help Myanmar to best position itself for this future.
